9 weeks old - Cell Phone Shots

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 | Baby, Camille, Family | 2 Comments

Rémi went to New York for a follow up interview with NY Polytechnic on Sunday night. The interview went great, he really likes the people there and he got to check out the Courant Institute, where he might have a joint appointment. While he was gone, Steph bombarded him with pictures of Camille from her cell phone, so he wouldn’t miss her too badly. She did this during his previous visit also. Here are some of the cell phone pictures, the quality is not always great, but the subject is usually pretty adorable.

Camille’s 2-month-old birthday

Thursday, March 26th, 2009 | Baby, Camille, Family | 4 Comments

Unbelievable the changes a month can bring. The end of March finds us with a little one who is much more coordinated, a lot more expressive and a pound or so heavier than the  baby we held at the end of February. Camille’s personality is becoming more evident every day. She is learning what she likes and doesn’t like, and she’s getting better at communicating these things to us, as we’re getting better at understanding her. She is so much more alert than she was at one month old. She pays attention, and when something interests her, she’ll keep her eye on it, even if it’s moving (or she is moving). She is an expert at using her hands now, she comforts herself by sucking on them, and when she’s tired she rubs her eyes or pulls at her ears. Incredibly, we are falling more in love with her every day, as we’re getting glimpses of the little girl this baby is turning into.

Week 8

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 | Baby, Camille, Family | No Comments

Camille is growing! She seems to be lengthening right before our eyes, and we have already a pile of too-small clothes to give to Julia, her cousin who is due to be born in mid April. Her brain is developing at rapid speed also, in just the last week she has really developed more control over her hands and will bat at a toy or anything she finds interesting. She also has learned to suck on her hands for comfort, and has become a Houdini, escaping from her swaddle every night to get to her hands. We learned from the pediatrician that the starburst mark on her face beside her nose is an “infant mark” (she said they shouldn’t call them birth marks, since sometimes they appear after birth, as in Camille’s case) instead of the busted blood vessel that we were thinking it was. On the whole she’s just so perfect! Of course many mothers would disagree, and we’ll have to rewrite the following statement when Julia arrives, but Camille must be the most beautiful baby there ever was. (We’re not biased at all! See for yourself:)

Week 7

Monday, March 16th, 2009 | Baby, Camille, Family | 3 Comments

At the risk of jinxing ourselves, we’ll reluctantly report that Camille is indeed becoming a happier baby. It’s hard to tell if she really is changing so drastically, or if we’re just finally learning how to be a better mom and dad. It seems to be a little of both. Either way, we’re not complaining as the Dingreville household is a bit calmer every day.

Week 5-6: Over the hump?

Saturday, March 7th, 2009 | Baby, Camille, Family, Outdoors | 3 Comments

We’ve read and been told that week 6 is usually the peak of fussiness in the life of a newborn. Apparently, after this turning point, everything starts to get a little easier for the baby, her digestiive system is more mature, she’s better able to soothe herself, etc. We’ve got our fingers crossed that this will be true for our little Camille. Some days she really seems to be snapping out of her fussy self. She has always been a fiery baby, moving from passion to passion in the blink of an eye. One minute she’s squealing in ecstasy and a second later she’s screaming in agony. Happily, these extremes seem to be settling down a little. Her new favorite thing is to stand up on our laps and look around. It seems that if she’s sitting down she thinks she’s missing out! She’s still really into black and white, and her favorite things to look at are still our faces. She’s really good at following moving objects now, and if she’s in a good mood, she’ll usually smile and squeal if we smile at her. Here are some pictures.
