Baby likes Mozart

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 | Baby | 7 Comments

Big news: Rémi and I both felt the baby move! We were watching the olympics, and we put the headphones to my belly, playing Mozart for the baby. It’s the first time we’ve done that, and it seems the little one liked it! We both felt major kicks (or punches or somersaults?). I thought it was too early to be able to feel this sort of thing from outside, but there was no mistaking it! So maybe we have a little music lover on our hands, unless he/she was trying to tell us to shut off the racket!

Other than this development, it was a quiet weekend. We had a minor role reversal, as Rémi finished some furniture that our friends Bruce and Saskia gave us, and I washed the Beast and the car. The furniture turned out looking great, although we haven’t decided where in the house we’re going to put it.

I also got a haircut, 4 inches! On the whole, you can’t really tell, but it does feel healthier.

We also picked about 3.5 lbs of tomatoes that were ready and a 10 lb watermelon that wasn’t (bummer) from the garden. I made some yummy gazpacho.

The heartbeat

Just a quick note to let everyone know we had a great doctors visit yesterday, everything seems to be moving along perfectly. We listened to the heartbeat, which is so so incredible to hear. At first the doctor couldn’t find it (panic!) but then all of a sudden it came up loud and clear - really loud, actually. My doctor said the baby must have moved a little or turned over. I’m still not sure I’m feeling these little movements - I can’t really tell if it’s just air bubbles or hunger or other tummy stuff, but sometimes it feels more intentional. Soon enough..

Back in business

Sunday, August 10th, 2008 | gardening | 4 Comments

A new day, a new blog. At least now you can all comment, and it should be faster loading. It might take a little while to get this blog up to speed, but for now here’s what we were up to this weekend. Will had a bath, since the vet told us he might be having some allergies. Now he smells like johnson’s baby wash! After washing him, Remi moved on to the slaab. Then we harvested the neglected garden, pulling out about 25 pounds of carrots (you think I’m joking…), a dozen or so onions, the same amount of shallots, and some zucchinis that really should have come out sooner. After making about 10 gallons of carrot soup, our weekend work was done. (In baby-related news, you can go to www.remiandsteph.com/baby.html for belly pics, updated today)
